Ruben Amorim told he is using 'devastating' Man United star all wrong after Forest draw

Amad Diallo scored his first goal of the season for Manchester United against Nottingham Forest, but pundit Ashley Williams spotted a “conundrum”.

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon to end a three-match winning streak in the Premier League.

It looked as though Ruben Amorim’s one-year anniversary as head coach might end in another victory when Casemiro handed the Red Devils the lead in the first half.

But United’s huge lapse in concentration early in the second half saw Forest score twice in quick succession. Amad Diallo scored a superb volley to salvage a point at the City Ground.

Amad expressed his disappointment at the result after the full-time whistle, and his performance in particular drummed up some interesting talking points.

Ashley Williams spots Amad Diallo ‘conundrum’ at Man United

For the first time in his United career, Amorim named an unchanged line-up to face Forest in the Premier League on Saturday, with Amad keeping his starting spot at right wing-back.

Amorim has explained why Amad is ‘perfect’ at wing-back because of his attacking traits. But pundit Ashley Williams believes the position is not getting the most out of the 23-year-old.

Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Williams said: Amad is a conundrum. He’s in the team because of his attacking qualities but he can’t play in the no.10 position because Mbeumo and Cunha are playing really well.

“He plays right wing-back and he finds himself in defensive positions, which isn’t his strength.”

During the post-match analysis, Williams pointed out that Forest targeted Amad’s flank with Callum Hudson-Odoi, who got joy down the wing and was able to supply some dangerous crosses into the box.

Amad was also targeted at the back post for Forest’s first goal via Morgan Gibbs-White.

Amad Diallo justified Ruben Amorim decision

During the Forest game, Amorim refused to make attacking substitutions, and he explained after the full-time whistle that he didn’t want to “break” United’s setup.

Ultimately, he was proven right as Amad ended up scoring the equaliser in brilliant fashion and nearly scored a last-minute winner but for a goal-line block.

Just a few weeks ago, Amad was a nightmare for Liverpool, and he is quickly becoming a nailed-on starter at right wing-back.

Amad was targeted by Forest, but ultimately, Diogo Dalot’s disaster display was more at fault for the two quickfire goals.

He is still adapting to the role under Amorim, but he has the perfect characteristics and attacking ability that the Portuguese coach is looking for.
