Wolves are now considering the surprise appointment of former manager Gary O'Neil after Vitor Pereira was sacked on Sunday, GIVEMESPORT understands.
GIVEMESPORT confirmed on Sunday morning that Pereira had been sacked as manager after a poor start to the campaign. The Midlands outfit want to make a swift appointment after his dismissal, as they sit bottom of the Premier League table without a win under their belt this campaign.
Wolves have picked up just two points so far this season, and despite being just 10 games into the campaign, they are already eight points adrift of safety. The Wanderers have struggled since losing Nelson Semedo, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Matheus Cunha in the summer transfer window, with their new additions finding it difficult to make a significant impact.
Wolves Eyeing Surprise Appointment of Gary O'Neil

According to GIVEMESPORT sources, Wolves are now considering the surprise appointment of O'Neil, who was sacked by the club last December. O'Neil is still held in high regard by the Wolves hierarchy, and he's one of the options now being considered.
O'Neil took over at Wolves in August 2023 after being sacked by Bournemouth just two months prior. In his first season at the club, O'Neil led the Wanderers to a 14th place finish, while also reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. The 42-year-old then signed a new four-year deal at the club in August, but he was sacked just over four months later.
O'Neil is now one of the options who could return to Molineux as they search for a new manager following Pereira's sacking. Pereira, like O'Nei back in 2024, recently signed a new contract with the club as they looked to show their faith in the manager, but the poor results continued, ultimately leading to his dismissal on Sunday.
It's unclear whether O'Neil would be keen on a return to the club, but he's out of work as it stands and has been since he left Wolves. O'Neil showed during his time at Wolves that he was capable of being a Premier League manager, hence being offered a long-term deal, but things did start to unravel towards the end of his tenure at the club.
