Patriots Reportedly Not Interested in Adding Weapon for Drake Maye

The New England Patriots have been one of the most impressive teams in the NFL to start the season, sitting at 6-2 and in first place in the tough AFC East, with the Buffalo Bills right behind them at 5-2.

Winners of five straight games, much of the success the Patriots have found throughout the 2025 campaign has been due to what Drake Maye has done under center. Maye has thrown for at least 200 yards in every game he’s played this season, racking up 2,026 yards, 15 touchdowns, and just three interceptions.

While still a very young team that has exceeded expectations, it'd make sense for the Patriots to go out and try to land a difference-maker on the offensive side of the football for the youngsters at the deadline.

Reports had indicated in the past few months that the Patriots are a team interested in A.J. Brown, but it doesn’t sound like the Philadelphia Eagles are willing to move on from him.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to go after a different player, but according to the latest report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic, New England is only searching for a pass rusher to help its defense at the moment.

While a running back could also be a possibility, the Patriots feel good about the weapons they have on the offensive side of the football.

"The Patriots are searching for a pass rusher but feel good about their offensive weapons. Running back could be a possibility because of recent injuries," she wrote.

It might not be the worst idea to allow Maye to continue to develop and go from there.

The Patriots should have many years with him under center and in contention, so barring anything drastic happening or his play not improving as it has, New England can save some of its assets to make a bigger deal in the future.
