Bills' kicker Matt Prater may be impacted by injury in Week 9 vs. Chiefs with Tyler Bass still not playing

The Buffalo Bills would've thought for most of the summer that their kicking situation this season would be simple.

They had Tyler Bass back, and so he'd be their kicker. That was it.

Except during the preseason, Bass got injured. He wasn't ready for Week 1.

The Bills signed Matt Prater, and he was the hero right away with a game-winning kick in the crazy comeback against the Baltimore Ravens on the opening Sunday night of the season.

Prater hasn't left yet. Bass still isn't back.

It's Week 9 now, and the Bills have a huge game on the docket against the Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes.

If it comes down to a kick, it'll be Prater doing the job for Buffalo.

One problem: He might be a bit injured.

Matt Prater injury update

Prater was listed as a limited participant in practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The Bills didn't give him an injury designation, so he'll play against the Chiefs.

The injury itself is a bit concerning: It's a right calf problem.

There's no word on the severity, but given that Prater is a right-footed kicker, the right calf seems key.

The Bills will be hoping it doesn't come into play Sunday in a game that'll be huge for the momentum of the season one way or the other.
