Seahawks Star Pass Catcher “Not Expected to Play” vs. Commanders in Latest Injury Twist

The Seattle Seahawks’ receiving room is under serious scrutiny. Heading into Sunday Night Football against the Commanders, their biggest star pass catcher might be sitting this one out.

Cooper Kupp’s status for the SNF primetime clash has raised more questions than answers. What started as a manageable heel issue transformed into something more concerning after Thursday’s practice.

Seahawks Cooper Kupp’s Status in Jeopardy Ahead of Commanders Game

Kupp entered the week dealing with a heel injury, but he practiced fully on Wednesday, then made things worse after injuring his hamstring on Thursday. The setback forced the team management to limit his participation before he sat out Friday’s session entirely.

Now, the veteran wideout is officially listed as questionable, but the writing’s on the wall. ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Sunday morning that Kupp is unlikely to suit up.

He tweeted, “Seahawks WR Cooper Kupp, listed as questionable for Sunday night due to a heel and hamstring injury, is unlikely to play vs. the Commanders, per source.”

Head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed that both injuries occurred during practice this week. The timing seemed too perfect to be anything but bad for the franchise and its fans in the Emerald City.

Their week 9 opponent has allowed 198 points this season — about 24.8 per game, ranking 21st in the league. They’ve also recorded 22 sacks, averaging 2.75 per game. The Seahawks need Kupp’s route-running savvy and veteran presence against a Commanders defense that’s been quietly trending up.

The 32-year-old has been a safety valve for quarterback Sam Darnold all season, recording 24 catches for 293 yards through seven games. Without him in the roster, Seattle’s attacking game plan is about to take a massive hit for sure.

Seahawks Receiver Room Gets Demolished by Injuries

The Kupp situation is just the tip of the iceberg because Seattle’s receiver depth chart is getting torched by multiple injuries.

Jake Bobo is out with an Achilles issue that occurred Thursday, though Macdonald clarified it’s not a ruptured tendon. And Dareke Young has been ruled out with a quad injury after missing two straight practices.

Team management placed safety Julian Love and tight end Eric Saubert on injured reserve Saturday. That’s two more bodies off the active roster heading into a crucial divisional matchup.

To patch the holes left by Kupp, Seattle elevated receivers Cody White and Ricky White III from the practice squad Saturday. Rookie Tory Horton is expected to step into the No. 2 receiver role behind Smith-Njigba, who was fined $14,491 for TD Celebration in Week 7.

Quite frankly, that’s not exactly the depth fans want going into a primetime game, but it’s what the Seahawks are working with.

The Commanders are sitting at 3–5 heading into Sunday Night Football, while the Seahawks’ record looks quite better at 5–2. But Kupp’s absence, combined with Bobo and Young being out, leaves some real tension about whether Mike Macdonald can improve the record to 6-2 or drop to 5-3.
