Alan Shearer has delivered a scathing verdict on Newcastle United’s performance during their defeat to West Ham.
The Magpies went into the game at the London Stadium as massive favourites, with pundits such as Paul Merson and Chris Sutton predicting that Newcastle United would beat West Ham.
That is not how things transpired in East London, with Newcastle losing 3-1 to West Ham. It was a disastrous performance from Eddie Howe’s side, who continue their plight away from home in the Premier League.

After three wins in a row, Newcastle United were shocking against the Hammers. In the words of Alan Shearer, they were ‘awful’.
That is how the Newcastle United legend described his former side’s performance on X immediately after the full-time whistle.
He wrote: “That was awful. No better 2nd half. Not one positive. Lazy. Leggy. Lethargic. Well done West Ham.”

Ahead of the game, Shearer backed Newcastle to beat West Ham. While he refused to say it would be comfortable for Howe’s side, he did expect the Magpies to inflict more misery on West Ham.

Instead, Nuno Espirito Santo picked up his first victory as Hammers boss.
As for Newcastle, they passed up the opportunity to climb into the top half of the Premier League. While they are impressing in the Champions League and dreaming of another Wembley return in the Carabao Cup, the Magpies continue to let themselves down in the league.
