Newcastle star who was 'outplayed' - and one who might well be dropped on Wednesday

**WEST HAM** (4-2-3-1):

Areola 6; Wan-Bissaka 7, Todibo 7, Kilman 7, Diouf 6; Potts 8, PAQUETA 9; Bowen 8, Fernandes 7 (Igor, 85), Summerville 7 (Walker-Peters, 78); Wilson 7 (Soucek, 61, 7).

Subs (not used): Hermansen (gk), Guilherme, Rodriguez, Magassa, Irving, Mayers.

**NEWCASTLE** (4-3-3):

4 **Pope**: Some good early saves but should have done better with Paqueta’s equaliser and failed to hold on to shot that led to Soucek goal

5 **Krafth**: Struggled to get a grip of the tricky Summerville as Newcastle missed calm head of Trippier - replaced at the break as Howe changed shape

5 **Thiaw**: Brilliant early tackle to deny Bowen when penalty decision got overturned but after that lacked his usual composure

4 **Botman**: Never looked comfortable - own-goal gave West Ham big lift just before half-time and replaced early in the second half

4 **Burn**: Crucial second goal came down his side when he stepped up and Wan-Bissaka got in behind - Howe has a big decision to make when Hall is fully fit

5 **Tonali**: At least tried to get a grip of the game but was let down by those around him

4 **Guimaraes**: Was outplayed by his close friend Paqueta, who was the game’s best player - teed up early goal for Murphy but struggled after that

4 **Joelinton**: Way short of his best - shouldn’t be tired after midweek breather but will be fortunate to start on Wednesday in Champions League

6 **MURPHY**: Excellent finish gave Newcastle early lead - looked United’s best attacking hope for the most part but was replaced late on

4 **Gordon**: Offered very little in attack and switched off to allow Wan-Bissaka to advance unopposed in build-up to second goal - hooked at half-time

5 **Woltemade**: Press was half-hearted at the start of West Ham move that led to second goal and was taken off at half-time.

**Subs**:

5 **Osula** (for Woltemade, 46): Didn’t make an impact from the bench

5 **Schar** (for Krafth, 46): Excellent in midweek but didn’t settle here

5 **Ramsey** (for Gordon, 46): Didn’t make a difference

5 **Barnes** (for Botman, 65): One or two bright runs but Newcastle never looked like scoring in second half

Elanga (for Murphy, 77)

(not used): Ramsdale (gk), Hall, Barnes, Elanga, Willock, Miley.

**Man Of The Match: LUCAS PAQUETA** – Scored crucial equaliser and was threatening every time he got the ball.
