Erling Haaland hit yet another brace to move closer to 100 Premier League goals. Check out the best facts and Opta data from the game with our Man City vs Bournemouth stats page.
If you are reliant on a player like Erling Haaland, it certainly helps when he puts in a performance like this.
Up against a Bournemouth side who were, in second place before this game, hinting at pretensions for a tilt at Champions League qualification, there were no guarantees that Haaland would get chances, let alone score. And when he has failed to score this season, his side have struggled. It’s something that has been raised as a criticism of this City side.
Bournemouth came to the Etihad with a miserable record against City, having lost 15 of their 16 Premier League meetings, but Andoni Iraola has built a different beast at the Vitality Stadium, and they will have headed to Manchester with more confidence of an upset than that record suggested they should have. The exception in that run, after all, was a 2-1 win at home only last season.
Iraola’s side really are a formidable oufit, and they fired a very early warning as Eli Kroupi turned David Brooks’ cross into the City net inside 60 seconds, only to see the linesman’s flag raised to rule the goal out.
However, from there on, there wasn’t a great deal of peril. City went ahead through – you guessed it – Haaland on 17 minutes after he was put through on goal by Rayan Cherki. The forward celebrated with a ‘robot’ dance that might just have been a nod to his reputation as a goal machine.
Tyler Adams equalised from a corner with his first goal in 73 appearances across all competitions in English football, but City swiftly gained control of the game once again. And once again, they did so through Haaland.

Again, he was put through by Cherki, who added to his goal and assist against Swansea in midweek with two assists here. Across all competitions in 2025, Cherki has registered 2+ assists in five different matches, the most of any player for a side in Europe’s top five leagues.
Haaland’s brace meant he has scored 13 Premier League goals this season. The only players to score as many or more in their side’s first 10 matches of a campaign in the competition are Les Ferdinand (13 in 1995-96) and Haaland himself (15 in 2022-23).
He also became only the third player in Premier League history to score 2+ goals in four successive home appearances after Luis Suárez (five in 2013) and Robbie Fowler (four in 1995/1996), while also moving to only two goals away from his century of Premier League goals.
Haaland nears his century
Nico O’Reilly later did his best Haaland impression with a crisp finish into the far corner of the net to put the result beyond doubt and send City up to second place in the table, in the process nudging Bournemouth down into fourth. This was Bournemouth’s first defeat since the opening night of the season, when they lost 4-2 away to Liverpool.
A near-perfect day for City was completed when, with a few minutes of the match left, Rodri made his much-anticipated return from injury.
With their midfield marshal back and their goal machine efficiently producing the goods, they have every chance of going on a good run now. Six points behind unflappable Premier League leaders Arsenal, they can’t afford many more slip-ups if they are to challenge for the title this season. On this evidence, though, they are equipped to make a good go of it.
