Albion pair face Leeds again - 24 hours after Prem debuts

The pair were part of an Albion under-21s side who drew away to Leeds in Premier League 2.

The Seagulls led twice through Younes Ibrahim and Adam Brett.

But the hosts levelled twice, the second in the closing stages after they had a player sent off.

Oriola, who can play on either wing, and Knight, a central midfielder, both made the trip to the LNER Community Stadium after their brief part in the first team’s 3-0 win at the Amex on Saturday. Knight captained the 21s.

First team head coach Fabian Hurzeler said he sent the duo on deep in added time at the Amex to reward their hard work.

He told BBC Radio Sussex: “They deserve it. They are part of our squad at the moment.

“I think it is important to give the young players in the academy the understanding that, if you train well, if you behave well – and they all have the potential but it is about really showing it day for day.

“Stay humble, work hard and that is why I think it also important to give them this chance and to give them the opportunity to be a part of the first team.

“Today they just deserve it because of their effort the whole week.”

The duo were on just long enough to see one last Leeds ball into the box come to nothing.

Knight, who recently turned 20,comes from Portslade and has been with the Seagulls since he was nine.

He saw a loan move to Crawley Town fall through on deadline night in September and told The Argus recently about training with the senior squad.

He said: “I go in there once or twice a week but, every time you are over there, it is another opportunity to show yourself.

“When you are there, it is get your head down and keep working.”

Oriola, 18, was previously with the academies at West Ham and Manchester United.

Hurzeler said recently: “He's a very good left-footed player, he's very good one-against-one, he shows good reactions when he loses the ball so, at the moment, we're very pleased with how he's doing,

“Let's see how his development continues. It’s about him.

“I said it to him, it's about him, it's about how hard he works, it's about how humble he stays.

“What does it mean for him to be in the first-team environment? Is it like, all right, I'm satisfied now, or is it more like extra motivation to do more, to invest more, to sacrifice more, to make the next step?”
