Cole Kmet injury update isn't good news for Bears

Cole Kmet went to the halftime locker room early.

That was a sign that something wasn't right with the Chicago Bears' tight end.

Soon after, the Bears announced that Kmet is questionable to return. He's in concussion protocol.

Chicago ended their drive before the half with a field goal to go up 17-13, but then the Bengals scored a quick touchdown to go back up ahead before the intermission.

Kmet has already missed time this season with injury, so this would be a bummer for the Bears.

They are at least somewhat equipped to handle an absence at tight end.

The Bears used the No. 10 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft on a tight end, Colston Loveland out of Michigan.

Loveland hasn't been superb yet, but he's a talented player, and he'll be counted on if Kmet has to stay on the sideline.

Kmet and Loveland don't play the same position in the Bears' offense, meaning they can both be used at once.

Chicago and Ben Johnson could opt to go with more single-TE sets if Kmet is out, letting Loveland and a group of receivers try to get the job done.

The Bears' offense was already shorthanded for Sunday with RB D'Andre Swift out, but his backup Kyle Monangai has had a great first half.

They'll hope Loveland can follow suit as next man up if needed.
