Why Josh Palmer isn't playing today for Bills vs. Chiefs with injury news

The Buffalo Bills' need for a wide receiver at the trade deadline could show up in a big way on Sunday.

The Bills are playing the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9, and they'll be one WR short.

Joshua Palmer was ruled inactive about 90 minutes before kickoff.

The big-time free agent signing hasn't done much yet this season.

Why isn't Josh Palmer playing today?

Josh Palmer isn't playing on Sunday because he's injured.

Palmer hurt his ankle against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6.

He was considered week to week at the time of the injury.

The Bills had a Week 7 bye week, giving Palmer time to recover without a game.

But Palmer still didn't get on the practice field in preparation for Week 8, making him clearly unavailable even before his official out designation. And he isn't back yet for Week 9, either.

Without Palmer, the Bills' WR depth is tested a bit. Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir lead the group.

Palmer's absence should lead to more snaps for Elijah Moore, Tyrell Shavers and Curtis Samuel.

The Bills would be wise to lean on their running game with James Cook as they try to figure out how to unlock some more productivity out of their wide receiver room, one that may need a trade by Tuesday's deadline.
