Aston Villa fan builds Villa Park replica
The January transfer window is rapidly approaching, which could be good news for Aston Villa
Aston Villa have been one of the most active Premier League clubs in the January transfer market in recent years, and that could be no different this time around as the in-form Villans look to secure European football once again.
What appeared to be a disastrous start to the season for Unai Emery’s side quickly turned around with a succession of Premier League victories against the likes of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, a result which propelled the Villans into the top half as the unstoppable Erling Haaland was, in fact, stopped from scoring at Villa Park.
Emery has recently expressed that amidst injury issues for some members of his squad, he would like to have more players to choose from as Villa’s Europa League exploits continue alongside their domestic campaign. The winter transfer window could, therefore, be the Spanish manager’s port of call - as it so often has been in his three years at the club.
Current and former Real Madrid forwards headline Aston Villa’s January targets
Aston Villa have been reported to be one of several clubs interested in signing Real Madrid’s teenage forward Endrick, who has struggled to get any game-time under his belt for Xabi Alonso and may target a January loan move as the next stage in his development. The former Palmeiras wonderkid arrived at Los Blancos in a sensational £52 million deal but a Premier League loan could be a realistic possibility, with Villa believed to be a front-runner for the Brazil international’s signature. He will see the success of former team-mate Estevao at Chelsea as proof that England is a great place to develop.
The Villans have also been linked with Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo, formerly of both Real Madrid and Barcelona, who might be available for a reported £26m if he pushes for a Sociedad exit. This is believed to be his desire, as the 24-year-old Japan international is thought to be disillusioned with the direction of the Basque outfit. The Villans are ‘best positioned’ to secure a deal, according to reports.
Bundesliga ‘complete’ star also top Villans target
The West Midlands outfit have also shown ‘formalised’ interest in Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani according to reports - the 23-year-old has been integrated into the Bundesliga outfit’s first team this season following a break-out loan spell in the German second tier, and has already scored five goals in eight league games to be labelled as a "superb complete forward" by scout Jacek Kulig. His form has alerted Emery’s men, in addition to Catalan giants Barcelona.
Former Brentford striker Ivan Toney is also gunning for a Premier League return in January to better his chances of crashing the World Cup squad, and the Mirror have called for Villa to make a move for the 29-year-old, though there is not believed to be concrete interest as of yet.
The Villans have also been linked with Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who is likely to find first-team minutes hard to come by when he returns from at injury lay-off at the Etihad, while £43m-rated Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez has been touted as a defensive option for Emery’s impressive unit.
Further transfer rumours will undoubtedly emerge in the coming weeks and months as we approach what could be a busy January for the Villans. As is so often the case, a new face or two could arrive at Villa Park and make all the difference in the spring.
