Chargers’ Joe Alt carted off the field after suffering second ankle injury this season

Los Angeles Chargers’ staff carted off offensive tackle Joe Alt during his team’s duel against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Alt suffered an ankle injury in the second quarter of the game, marking the second time he suffered this injury in the 2025 NFL season.

Alt had his lower leg rolled up on by a Titans’ defender when quarterback Justin Herbert attempted a pass. He was carted off the field shortly after, which is normally not a positive sign for his return to the Week 9 duel.

Alt was grabbing his leg as he exited the field, adding fuel to the concern regarding his availability for the rest of the game and perhaps beyond. Los Angeles listed Alt as questionable to return and replaced him with Jamaree Salyer.

The first injury Alt sustained happened against the New York Giants in Week 4, when the Chargers lost their unbeaten record (3-0). Edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux fell into Alt’s leg, which kept him sidelined for the next three games, until he returned against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8.

Alt, selected with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is arguably the best offensive lineman in the league and his absence can be deadly for the Chargers.

The Chargers took on a one-win Titans team that didn’t look like a big threat, but they could leave Nissan Stadium with a win and a big loss, if Alt’s issue turns out to be serious.
