Time to go: Howe must drop Newcastle star after 'awful' display, it's happening too often [view]

Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon produced another disappointing display against West Ham United on Sunday, and it could be time for him to have a spell out of the starting XI, particularly in the Premier League.

The Magpies currently sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table after losing away to West Ham, with their attacking production a particular concern. Nick Woltemade has struck four times in the Premier League this season, but their other attacking options have struggled to make things happen, particularly Gordon.

Eddie Howe's side are still searching for their first victory away from home in England's top flight this season, while they've only won three games overall from their opening 10 matches. The North East club have looked strong in the Champions League, but they'll need to up their level domestically.

Gordon Should be Dropped by Newcastle

It's time for Howe to take Gordon out of the side after a disappointing start to the Premier League season. A lot has been spoken about Anthony Elanga's lack of form on the right-hand side, but Gordon has been just as disappointing in the final third.

The former Everton winger is yet to register a single goal or assist in the Premier League this campaign, and it'll be interesting to see how long Howe sticks with him on the left. Newcastle have a competent winger in Harvey Barnes itching for a start, having played just 368 minutes in the top flight this term.

Barnes has provided four goals and assists in all competitions this season, and although Gordon has five overall, two of those were penalties. Journalist Luke Edwards described Gordon's performance against West Ham as 'awful', and it was no surprise when Howe opted to bring him off at half-time.

If Howe wants to fix Newcastle's attacking problems quickly, then dropping Gordon might be necessary, as he's clearly not at the required level when it comes to his Premier League performances. Newcastle face Athletic Club in the Champions League on Wednesday at home, before a trip to Brentford in the Premier League next week.

Gordon has produced in the Champions League, but when they face Brentford, it should be time for Barnes to be given a fair opportunity, with Gordon watching on from the bench.
