Joel Embiid fined $50k for ‘lewd gesture’

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid once again received a fine from the league office for his go-to Triple H crotch chop celebration.

The following was released from the NBA on Sunday afternoon, detailing the “lewd gesture” during Friday’s matchup against the Celtics will cost him $50,000.

This was the first quarter play and “lewd gesture” afterwards:

This marks the fourth time in his career that Embiid was specifically fined for the Triple H celebration, now totaling $185,000.

He got hit with one one in Jan. 2023, one in Oct. 2023, and one in Dec. 2024 before the most recent punishment. The prior fines all used the term “obscene gesture” when detailing the celebration, so it is intriguing why the league decided to use the different descriptor. Is there a celebration naughtiness scale?

The known troll took no time to speak his mind on social media, calling hypocrisy on the NBA.

If precedent holds any value, the fine will do little to dissuade Embiid from partaking in the chop. It will have to wait, however, as he is ruled out for tonight’s game against the Brooklyn Nets for injury management.
