The Denver Broncos got the ball to start the second half and really needed to find a way to get things going after the Houston Texans dominated time of possession in the first half.
Bo Nix and the Broncos’ offense opened up with a JK Dobbins run for nine yards. The fullback, Adam Prentice, plunged forward for the first down on the next play. After Nix took a sack and a short run by Dobbins, the Broncos were faced with a third and eight where Nix would fail to connect with Courtland Sutton to bring out the punt unit.
A 47-yard punt return set the Texans up on the Broncos side of the field. Denver’s defense — once again — found a way to get off the field to force yet another field goal attempt by Houston.
Predictably, the Broncos offense went a quick three-and-out and the Broncos special teams unit would commit a dumb late hit out of bounds for another free 15 yards to kick-start the Texans next drive. Fortunately, the Broncos defense always comes to play and forced its own three-and-out with a timely Riley Moss pass breakup on third down.
On the Broncos next drive, they went to JK Dobbins three straight times, but back to back runs needing two yards didn’t gain two yards to force yet another punt and three-and-out for the anemic Broncos offense.
The third quarter would drift towards its conclusion after Denver’s defense forced its own three-and-out. The Broncos took the field on offense yet again at their own 39-yard line. An opening pass to Troy Franklin got them across midfield and a follow up one to him outside got them to the Texans 45-yard line to end the quarter.
