The New York Giants are at a crossroads, facing a question that echoes through the halls of MetLife Stadium: Is it time to bench Daniel Jones for rookie Drew Allar? After another stagnant offensive showing, reports from the New York Post indicate that both General Manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll are seriously considering a change at the quarterback position.
Why Has Daniel Jones’s Job Come into Question?

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones (17) spins the ball on his fingers Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, ahead of the game against the Denver Broncos at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Jones’s performance this season paints a worrisome picture. Through 10 games, he has thrown for just 2,070 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. With the Giants sitting at a 2-8 record, Jones’s personal record over his last 16 starts is a dismal 3-13. These are not the numbers a team expects from a quarterback who signed a $160 million extension in 2023 to be the franchise cornerstone.
According to Reuters, frustration is mounting internally over Jones’s inconsistency and his inability to elevate the offense. While protection issues and a shaky offensive line have certainly contributed, Jones has struggled to process defenses quickly or generate explosive plays even when given adequate time. An anonymous team source told the outlet that “the offense feels predictable because defenses no longer fear Daniel beating them deep.”
After the team’s latest loss, Jones acknowledged his struggles but remained committed to his role. “I’m focused on controlling what I can control,” Jones said post-game. While his professionalism has never been in question, production is what ultimately determines a player’s future in the NFL.
Is Now the Time for a Drew Allar Audition?

Internally, the Giants reportedly view Allar as their long-term answer at quarterback. The real question is whether the “long-term” should start now. Benching Jones mid-season would represent more than just a personnel change; it would signal a philosophical shift toward rebuilding around a younger quarterback and re-evaluating the entire offensive foundation.
The situation is complicated by Jones’s contract, which carries significant financial implications into 2025. This reality, however, makes giving Allar a late-season audition even more logical. If the rookie demonstrates command of the offense and flashes potential, it could give New York the justification it needs to move on from Jones next spring.
For a franchise desperate to regain relevance, all signs point toward an impending transition. Drew Allar may not be the immediate savior the Giants are hoping for, but continuing to wait for Daniel Jones to become that player seems increasingly unrealistic.
