Scott Parker emphasises Burnley’s season ‘won’t be defined’ by defeat to Arsenal

Scott Parker reflected on a hard fought 2-0 defeat for **Burnley**against **Arsenal**at Turf Moor.

The Gunners took the lead through another set piece as Gabriel Magalhaes flicked on a delivery from Declan Rice and Viktor Gyökeres mopped up the pieces from close range. The Swedish striker nearly assisted a couple of goals for Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard before the Belgian picked out Rice in the air as **Arsenal**doubled their advantage in open play before the first half had finished.

The hosts had greater initiative in the second half, but they could not break down an opponent who have now kept clean sheets in seven successive fixtures. Parker does not think that the Clarets will be defined by results against outfits like Arsenal, but there were positives to take from the performance.

“We started the game very well but then we conceded a goal and our body language looked stunned after that. The game can run away against a very good and clinical side. We were brilliant in the second half, I thought we were right in the game and showed an impetus about us. The second half performance was a pleasing factor really.

"Our season will not be defined on it [this result], but we want to be competitive. In the first half, maybe we lacked some belief about us. We caused Arsenal some real problems in the second half. I felt we had an edge and a confidence about us. We will try to take the positives.

"In set plays, you are relying on a lot of things. I do not think there is anything critical to say regarding our structure and set-up. Arsenal have got a mentality and fear about them when they come into the box, there is a real threat there, and we dealt with the majority of them."
