Insider Expects Steelers To Be ‘Aggressive’ For WR At Trade Deadline

The Pittsburgh Steelers finally showed us what we expected them to be capable of, knocking off the top-seeded Indianapolis Colts at home. The performance was nowhere near perfect, with the Steelers allowing the Colts to get off to a quick start, and they certainly could have put them away a little quicker as well.

However, this is a big win. The Steelers are now 5-3, and with Cincinnati’s loss, they’re two wins ahead of the Bengals and Baltimore Ravens heading into Week 10. With the Steelers having a real chance at a playoff spot, NFL insider Jonathan Jones claims they understand the position they’re in, and he expects the Steelers to be aggressive in their search for WR help.

“On offense, look for the Pittsburgh Steelers to attempt, to try their best to try to add another wide receiver before the Tuesday 4 p.m. eastern trade deadline,” Jones said Sunday on CBS Sports HQ. “I could see a Jakobi Meyers. I could see a Rashid Shaheed, someone like that. I believe the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to try to be aggressive to add another receiver. Because they know, they understand this window they’re in right now.”

Jones lists Jakobi Meyers and Rashid Shaheed as two possible candidates. Each have seen their name in plenty of trade rumors ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. This week, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the Steelers had called about Meyers. Whether the Raiders decide to move him or not remains up in the air. But Meyers has requested a trade, and if the Steelers are in contact, it’s certainly a possibility.

Meyers would be a nice addition. He’s a solid possession receiver who runs good routes. He’s not the youngest but has still put together the best seasons of his career during the last couple of years in Las Vegas.

In Shaheed, the Steelers would have a much younger WR, with a lot more explosiveness. He’s very quick and is a big play machine, giving the Steelers some speed they don’t quite have right now.

New Orleans reportedly wants a third-round pick in return for Shaheed. It’s not clear whether Omar Khan would be willing to pay that much. However, any top receiving option on the market at this point may cost something similar.

Of course, the Steelers have been rumored along with Marquez Valdes-Scantling. They were reported to have signed him earlier in the week, but nothing has come to fruition so far.

In Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson, the Steelers do have two receivers who have emerged in recent weeks. However, if the Steelers want something more proven and consistent at WR, the trade market is their best option.
