Nuno Espirito Santo enjoyed his first taste of victory since becoming the latest full time Head Coach of West Ham United.
And his team secured their first home points of the campaign in good fashion, before several thousand supporters staged a post-match sit-in as part of the continued series of protests against the stewardship of chair David Sullivan and vice chair Karren Brady.
The afternoon got off to the worst possible start for West Ham who were behind inside the opening five minutes as Newcastle capitalised on some lax defending; the visitors scoring just 26 seconds after Jarrod Bowen had struck the woodwork at the opposite end.
Parity was restored half-an-hour later when Lucas Paqueta fired home from distance, beating Newcastle's Nick Pope - who probably should've saved the Brazilian's effort.
And the Hammers - who also saw a penalty decision cancelled out after a pitch side review by referee Rob Jones - scored a vital second in added-on time at the end of the opening half via the outstretched boot of the unfortunate Sven Botman, who turned Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross into his own net.
Although Newcastle enjoyed the majority of second half possession, it was West Ham who continued to look the most threatening in the final third.
Man of the match Freddie Potts, making his first Premier League start thought he'd equalled his father Steve's tally of one goal for the club finishing off a sharp move - only to see the goal ruled out for the most marginal of offside decisions.
But substitute Tomas Soucek, whose size 12 boot was guilty of being offside had the last laugh when he turned a spilled Bowen effort over the line to secure a well-deserved 3-1 win for the Hammers.
We'll have a full match report for you soon...
