Robert Sanchez was easily one of the best players in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.
In fact, while Moises Caicedo has received a lot of the credit for the Blues’ victory in north London, you can argue that Sanchez was actually the top performer on the pitch that day.
The 27-year-old caught every cross and helped Chelsea to counter with some excellent and smart distribution.
Right now, Sanchez feels very settled at Stamford Bridge and explained why in a post-match interview.

Robert Sanchez is Chelsea’s undisputed No.1
Since joining Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, Sanchez has faced competition from Djordje Petrovic and Filip Jorgensen.
However, according to the Spaniard, the Club World Cup winners have always reassured him that he is the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Speaking to The Athletic after Chelsea’s victory over Tottenham, Sanchez said: “I feel confident, I am fit and at my best. I have always felt settled because the club always told me I am No.1.”
Towards the end of last month, it was suggested that Marc-Andre ter Stegen could replace Sanchez, with Chelsea viewing the Barcelona star as an upgrade on their current No.1.
It looks like the Blues have a lot of trust in Sanchez, though. Mike Penders is another keeper the club are thought to rate very highly, so some in west London may feel that there is no need to sign another shot-stopper next year.

Robert Sanchez’s stats after first 10 Premier League games
Sanchez can be pleased with his start to the Premier League season. Other than his red card in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in September, he has not done too much wrong.
After 10 games, the Spain international has kept four clean sheets and conceded nine goals. His save percentage could be higher, but Enzo Maresca will be happy with the former Brighton man right now.

If Sanchez and the rest of Chelsea’s backline show a bit more consistency, the Blues could have a very successful campaign. Going forward, they look very dangerous, but there are doubts surrounding their defence.
