Wood, Hudson-Odoi & Douglas Luiz: Latest Nottingham Forest injury news and expected return dates

Nottingham Forest 2-2 Manchester United match reaction and review

The latest Nottingham Forest injury news, with updates on Douglas Luiz, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Chris Wood and more.

Nottingham Forest may have battled their way to a very creditable draw against Manchester United over the weekend – their first point in the Premier League since September – but it came at a cost, with Douglas Luiz forced from the field with an injury early in the first half while Callum Hudson-Odoi also appeared to pick up a knock.

If either player is ruled out for Forest’s forthcoming Europa League match against Sturm Graz, they could be one of up to seven players compelled to watch the next step of the club’s European adventure unfold from the sidelines, with Chris Wood among the doubts ahead of the coming week’s games.

We’ve got all the latest Nottingham Forest injury news below ahead of the games against Sturm Graz and Leeds United next Sunday, along with the six stricken players’ expected return dates when available.

How bad are Douglas Luiz & Callum Hudson-Odoi’s injuries for Nottingham Forest?

Perhaps the single greatest source of concern is the injury to Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz, who went down with what appeared to be a hamstring injury inside the first 15 minutes and was promptly replaced by Ryan Yates.

New Forest manager Sean Dyche told the media after the match that he had not yet spoken to the Juventus loanee or to the club’s medical team and did not “want to put words in their mouth” when asked about the severity of the injury. As such, it remains unclear whether it was a serious injury, or how long he might be sidelined as a result, but it would be a major surprise – and a great relief – if he was involved against Sturm Graz on Thursday.

There will also be a question mark over the availability of Hudson-Odoi, who sustained an injury late on and was taken off in the 90th minute as a result. Dyche was a little more forthcoming about the former Chelsea winger’s situation, telling the media that “Callum has got a knock and we have to be careful because if that is a strain rather than a dead leg, it’s trouble.”

Both players will be assessed over the coming days and Dyche will likely provide a more fulsome update ahead of the midweek match against the Austrian champions. As it stands, both players are significant doubts for the game in Graz.

Will Chris Wood be back to face Leeds or Sturm Graz?

Forest fans will also be hoping that centre-forward Chris Wood (knee) is available for the coming games, although it seems unlikely that he will make the trip to Austria on Thursday, with Dyche confirming prior to the weekend that it was “possible” that the New Zealander returned to the squad for the Premier League match against Leeds. Wood hasn’t been involved since the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea last month.

Of the four other Forest players currently sidelined by fitness problems, Oleksandr Zinchenko (groin) and Dilane Bakwa (undisclosed) are likely closest to a return – Bakwa is “making good progress,” according to Dyche, while Zinchenko will be out for “a bit longer than we thought.” Both players could return after the November international break, with the away game against Liverpool on 22 November a realistic target.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Angus Gunn could be out for some time after he “opened up his knee ligaments,” according to Dyche, although no return date has been set. Long-term absentee Ola Aina (hamstring) is also said to be “making good progress” as he recovers from an injury which required surgery, but us unlikely to be involved until early January.
