Positives to take from City defeat - as Adams 'couldn't care less' about goal

Adams was on the spot to turn home the ball when it dropped in the six-yard box as Gianluigi Donnarumma flapped at an Alex Scott corner to score his first goal in English football.

Match report:

That was to equalise at the Etihad Stadium, after Erling Haaland’s opening goal.

The Norwegian struck again before halftime, as the Cherries stuck in the game to trail 2-1 at the interval.

But a Nico O’Reilly strike on the hour mark killed the game off for the hosts as Bournemouth’s unbeaten run came to an end.

Adams felt the Cherries took the game to City, but he was frustrated with the result and he believes there is plenty for them to work on moving forward.

“Every game's a tough game here,” Adams told the Daily Echo after the game.

“They just have so many different ways of playing. Obviously so much different personnel. It's a little bit tricky.

“We prepared a lot of different ways to play throughout the week and I think we did really well to be honest, I think we sustained a lot of pressure on them throughout good parts of the game.

“That's hard to do here. So, yeah, that being said, I think we could take positives from it, but a lot of things that we need to improve on as well.

“That's always going to happen within the season. So again, focus game by game, continue to improve and stay consistent.”

Asked about his goal, Adams said: “I honestly couldn't care less about the goal. Again, for me, three points is always the most important thing.

“I'm a competitive person. I think it shows the expectation of the club and the characters that we have within the team that we don't want to come here and lose 3-1.

“We want to get points from every single game. And if we want to stay where we're at in that part of the table, again, game by game is important, but we need to go toe to toe with these guys.”

Adams was replaced with ten minutes to play after he seemed to pick up a knock to his knee.

But the American midfielder said there were no issues with any injury.

“It was an impact,” he explained.

“Just knee to knee, so all good.”
