Palmer, Badiashile and Essugo: Chelsea injury news and return dates ahead of Qarabag and Wolves …

The Premier League Panel Which teams will get better or worse next season

Chelsea are back in action this week against Qarabag and Wolves respectively as they look to build some momentum

Chelsea won 1-0 away at local rivals Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend in the Premier League. Attacker Joao Pedro scored their winner at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they secured a useful three points. They are positioned in 6th place in the table after their first 10 fixtures and are only outside the top four by a single point.

Enzo Maresca’s side are back in action in the Champions League on Wednesday night with a trip to Qarabag. They then play Wolves in the league on Saturday night. In the meantime, here is a look at the latest injury news regarding the London club...

When will Cole Palmer be back from injury?

Chelsea star Cole Palmer has only played four games so far this season in all competitions. It has been a frustrating start to the campaign for the former Manchester City attacking midfielder. He is sidelined with a groin issue and isn’t expected back for their matches against Qarabag and Wolves and is still expected to be out of action for a few more weeks yet.

It seems likely that he will be back available after the November international break heading into early December. Maresca has recently said, via the Mirror: “I was wrong. Unfortunately, he needs to be out probably six more weeks. Yes, absolutely [he still doesn’t need surgery]. We try just to protect Cole as much as we can and the most important thing is that.Unfortunately, the medical staff, they are not magicians, they never know that you probably need six weeks. We hope that six weeks, they are enough, but it's a problem that we need to see step by step, week after week, but for sure he's going to be okay.

Palmer, 23, is under contract with Chelsea until June 2033 and has been a key player since joining them from City in 2023. Prior to his switch down to London, he had spent his entire career to date on the books at the Etihad Stadium and rose up through the academy with Pep Guardiola’s side. He has since established himself as one of the Blues’ most prized assets since his transfer and has scored 45 goals in 101 games in all competitions.

Other Chelsea injury updates including Badia Badiashile

Chelsea defender Badia Badiashile has endured a tough first few months of this term. He has a muscle problem and hasn’t been able to have a regular run in the team yet. The centre-back is unavailable until December right now which is a blow.

Elsewhere, Dario Essugo has a thigh injury and there has been no official time-frame regarding his return date. He picked up his issue back in September whilst on international duty with Portugal’s Under-21’s side and hasn’t been seen since. The Blues won’t want to rush him back in and will be patient with him meaning he is most likely to play again around December/January time.

Levi Colwill is a more long-term absentee for Chelsea and isn’t expected to feature again this term. He ruptured his ACL and subsequently needed surgery. The 22-year-old is now on the road to recovery and the club will stick by him as he looks to come back stronger at some point in 2026.

Colwill, who has made four caps for the England national team to date, was a regular at various different youth levels before breaking into the first-team. He has played 75 matches so far and has chipped in with two goals from the back. The Southampton-born man has also had loan spells away at Huddersfield Town and Brighton and Hove Albion in the past to get some experience under his belt and boost his development.
