Loan Watch | Young Reds in FA Cup action

Forest loanees in action over the weekend

Nottingham Forest’s respective loan stars have been in action for their clubs over the previous week, with most gaining valuable minutes in senior men’s football.

Mansfield Town continued their assault on the League One play-off places with a 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle at the One Call Stadium. Northern Ireland international Jamie McDonnell started for the Stags in their 2-0 win, while Joe Gardner rose from the substitutes’ bench to help set up the all-important second goal in the contest.

Over the weekend, three of our loanees were in action for Mansfield in their 3-2 Emirates FA Cup win over Harrogate Town.

McDonnell and Gardner both started for the Stags, completing 45 and 54 minutes respectively, while Kyle McAdam was an unused substitute in the match.

Donnell McNeilly earned valuable minutes against Premier League side Fulham for Wycombe Wanderers in the Carabao Cup last week, entering the contest in the 68th minute from the substitutes’ bench. The tie went to penalties following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, where the Cottagers eventually progressed following a 5-4 shoot-out defeat.

Over the weekend, McNeilly rose from the bench once more in the 78th minute as the Chairboys progressed to the second round of the Emirates FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Plymouth at Adams Park.

George Murray-Jones made his FA Cup debut for Chester in their tie against League Two side Cambridge United.

The Seals fell to a 3-0 loss against EFL opposition in what was their first first-round tie in two seasons.

In League Two, Josh Powell was an unused substitute for Colchester United in the U’s 3-2 defeat against MK Dons in the FA Cup.

Tyler Bindon was an unused substitute as Sheffield United fell to a 3-1 home defeat against Derby County, while Esapa Osong was not involved for Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership side’s 2-0 league win over Livingston and the Well’s 4-1 League Cup semi-final defeat to St Mirren.
