**West Ham fans can take a deep breath after finally showing they can mix it in the Premier League this season after beating Newcastle, but they must continue it vs Burnley.**
West Ham United went into this game vs Newcastle thinking their was absolutely no chance of getting anything from the game, despite the Magpies absolutely awful home record. A big chunk of the Hammers fanbase thought we were already doomed for relegation and it was the worst West Ham team in years,
However, myself and a lot of Hammers fans were completely proved wrong yesterday afternoon. I was walking to the London Stadium ahead of the game dreading the 90 minutes that was coming up.
Four minutes in when Jarrod Bowen had smashed one against the post and Jacob Murphy went up the other end and put the visitors a goal up, everyone in the stadium was thinking it was going to end up four or five nil, or worse.
But we didn’t let the goal ruin our game plan, we stuck to it, because we did look dangerous in the opening minutes before we conceded, we just got hit on the counter because Max Kilman went pressing up the pitch and couldn’t get back. But we continued in a similar way to how we started and started to take control of the game.
It was an excellent performance from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, something I had no idea we were capable of after watching the last couple of matches. Freddie Potts was shining on his first start, Todibo and Kilman looked like Premier League defenders and Paqueta played like his old self.
Not only did players shine indivually, the team chemistry looking very positive again, after just one match Hammers fans are getting their hope back and are now looking forward to next weeks game against Burnley. This win and performance is a huge relief for everyone involved at West Ham and hopefully we can kick on under Nuno and steer well clear of the relegation zone before Christmas.
But knowing West Ham, we’ll probably change the team against Burnley and lose comfortably to what is the worst team in the Premier League on paper. A loss on Saturday would almost mean the Newcastle performance didn’t mean anything, we simply have to win fixtures like Burnley at home if we want to stay in the top flight.
