I went from back row to front row at the Amex – and had a slightly different point of view to Fabian Hurzeler.
Today’s View From The Press Box podcast looks at the Leeds game and a welcome 3-0 win.
As ever, we cover senior and under-21s men’s teams as well as the WSL.
We close the 13-minute podcast with audio from Danny Welbeck as he spoke about the influences which drive him to be a good team-mate off the pitch.
I have also included a chat I had with Joe Knight, who made a brief first team debut on Saturday and then rushed to York to play for the under-21s, also against Leeds.
The audio you will hear is background from Knight about himself and his season and was recorded after the recent under-21s game against Middlesbrough – when none of us realised he was just four weeks away from a Prem debut.
Fran Kirby feels like a similar presence for the women’s team as Welbeck is for the men.
Her calm finish brought [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/?ref=au) back into their really tough test with Manchester United.
I also loved the way she rushed to get the ball back and a moment in the first half when she chased back a long way to halt a United counter-attack.
In the podcast, I speak to Dario Vidosic about Kirby’s influence and also look at the huge setback of Michelle Agyemang’s serious knee injury.
And then there is the two-goal star as Leeds were seen off.
I saw the second half of that game from right up in the back row of the West Upper rather than the lower press box and it was a great vantage point.
It was also a good place to sense just a bit of unease early in the second half when it was 1-0.
Then up stepped Gomez with his two goals.
It felt like a brilliant day for the Paraguayan and pay-off for hard-work and adaptation over the best part of a year.
As you can hear, when I made the point to Hurzeler, he initially agreed and then said Gomez has adapted more quickly than he had expected.
Another busy week to wrap up in the Monday podcast.
Thanks for listening.
