Sam Darnold, Seattle Seahawks stifle Washington Commanders

Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Sam Darnold was nearly perfect, throwing for 330 yards and four scores, to lead the Seattle Seahawks to a dominant win over the Washington Commanders.

Darnold completed 21 of 24 passes, including each of his first 17 throws, in the 38-14 triumph Sunday in Landover, Md. The Seahawks out-gained the Commanders 418 to 290 in total yards.

"Sam's execution right now, he's just ridiculous," Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald told reporters. "All the things we've talked about that he's been doing, but decisive, making smart decisions, our receivers are doing a great job, I thought the protection was really good."

Darnold connected with Elijah Arroyo, Tory Horton and Cody White for touchdowns. Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba led all pass catchers with eight grabs for 129 yards.

"Sometimes that flow just happens, especially in football," Darnold said. "It feels good when it happens. Just got to take advantage when you get those looks."

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels also sustained a left elbow injury in the fourth quarter and did not return to the game. He completed 16 of 22 passes for 153 yards and an interception in the loss. He also ran for 51 yards and a score.

Darnold orchestrated a 12-play, 90-yard drive on the Seahawks' first possession. He ended the drive with a 4-yard touchdown toss to Horton. Seahawks safety intercepted Daniels on the next drive. Darnold threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Horton about four minutes later.

The Commanders fumbled away the resulting kickoff return. Darnold took the next snap and found Arroyo for a 26-yard score, giving the Seahawks a 21-0 advantage.

The Seahawks quarterback hit White for a 60-yard score 4:34 before halftime for his fourth and final touchdown toss.

Daniels finally put the Commanders on the scoreboard with a 1-yard run with 53 seconds remaining in the first half. Seahawks kicker Jason Myers made a 41-yard field goal to end the second quarter for a 31-7 lead at the break.

Seahawks tight end A.J. Barner scored on a 1-yard run with 1:53 remaining in the second quarter to add to the lead. Commanders running back Chris Rodriguez ran for a 4-yard score midway through the fourth quarter for the final touchdown of the night.

The Commanders (3-6) will host the Detroit Lions (5-3) on Sunday in Landover. The Seahawks (6-2) will host the Arizona Cardinals (2-5) in Week 10.
