How Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea’s next five Premier League fixtures compare to their Champions League rivals

Chelsea came out on top at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, as a solitary Joao Pedro goal was enough for the three points with Tottenham players booed off the pitch at full-time after London derby defeat.

The result might prove to be crucial as the two clubs go head-to-head in their aims to qualify for the Champions League come the end of the season. With both sides currently taking part in the competition this term, they will look to secure a top-four place once again to maintain their place amongst Europe’s elite.

But it will prove no easy task, with several other early challengers coming to the fore in what appears to be a very open Premier League thus far. Both Spurs and Chelsea face some tough fixtures in the coming weeks as they look to make a stamp on securing the early yards for European qualification during the busy festive period.

Tottenham and Chelsea’s next five Premier League fixtures

Following a poor performance in defeat to the Blues in north London, Spurs take on Manchester United at home next before a huge trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal in the North London Derby on November 23. Another all-London encounter at home to Fulham follows, before crunch early-December clashes with Newcastle United and Brentford.

As for Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side, victory on Saturday took them up to sixth place - below Spurs on just goal difference. The Blues take on rock-bottom Wolves next up, before a trip to Burnley after the international break and a home clash with Mikel Arteta’s table-topping Gunners. Tough trips to Leeds United and Bournemouth kick off December for the west London outfit.

Maresca said after victory at Spurs: "It was a good performance for sure. Against this team, in this stadium, at this moment when they look very good, we needed a performance like this. We are very happy for ourselves and for the fans because it is a big derby."

Who other European challengers face in their next five fixtures

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are currently competing in this season’s Champions League and will hope to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season, though they have made a slow start and will need to turn things around quickly.

The Magpies travel to Brentford next up, before hosting Manchester City on November 23. An away trip to Everton’s brand-new Hill Dickinson Stadium follows, before the Toon host Spurs and then Burnley in early December.

Aston Villa missed out on the top five on goal difference last season and have responded well to rise up the table after a difficult start to this campaign. Unai Emery’s side face Bournemouth next up before a trip to Leeds and a West Midlands derby at home to Wolves. The Villans are away at Brighton and home to Arsenal in early December.

Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth might be in with a shout of qualifying for Europe this season after an outstanding start. The Cherries travel to Villa before clashes with West Ham United and Sunderland. Everton and Chelsea then travel to Vitality Stadium in early December.

While Manchester United, currently level on points with both Chelsea and Spurs, travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next before encounters with Everton, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Wolves.
