Philadelphia Eagles acquiring Jaelan Phillips in trade with Miami Dolphins

The Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins have reportedly pulled off a trade involving edge rusher Jaelan Phillips.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles are sending the Dolphins a 2026 third-round pick in exchange for Phillips.

"Sources: Miami is trading edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick. This is the third trade the Eagles have made in the past week. They now have added Phillips, CB Jaire Alexander and CB Michael Carter," Schefter reported.

Now, Phillips will be reunited with his former defensive coordinator and current Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who coached Phillips in 2023 when the former first-round pick had 6.5 sacks in eight games.

There has been plenty of rumors in recent days about the Eagles' interest in Phillips, so this trade comes as no surprise.

It also comes as no surprise because the Eagles desperately needed edge rusher help. Philadelphia is averaging less than two sacks per game this season and lost Za'Darius Smith after he unexpectedly retired.

Phillips once looked to be on a star trajectory after tallying 22 sacks over his first 42 games in the NFL. However, he then suffered a torn Achilles and torn ACL in back-to-back years.

The Miami product is back and healthy in 2025 but has just three sacks in nine games. That said, Phillips has three sacks in his last five contests, so it appears Miami's young edge rusher is rounding into form as the season progresses.

Phillips is on the final year of his contract, but he's also young enough that the Eagles can extend him to make him a long-term solution at the position if his play warrants a new deal.

This is just the latest trade the Eagles have made. In fact, it's their fourth during the season. And, we would suspect Howie Roseman might not be done, either.
