Wolves manager latest as Erik ten Hag discussed and Gary O'Neil talks held

Ex-Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was also sacked by Bayer Leverkusen in September.

Wolves are reportedly in talks with former manager Gary O'Neil and ex-Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

And report that talks are advancing over re-appointing O'Neil. The ex-AFC Bournemouth head coach was sacked by Wolves in December 2024 with the club second from bottom of the top-flight table.

O'Neil spent 16 months in charge at Wolves in which he led the club to a 14th-placed finish in the 2023/24 season. He has been out of work since leaving the club 11 months ago.

The same report adds that Ten Hag has also been discussed internally. The Dutchman has been out of work since his short-lived spell as Bayer Leverkusen manager ended in September after just 63 days.

Ten Hag was at United for nearly two-and-a-half years, where he guided them to the League Cup in 2022 and the in 2024.

The former Ajax boss oversaw a disappointing eighth-placed finish in 2023/24, though, and he was then sacked in October the following season.

Michael Carrick and Rob Edwards are, reportedly, also potential options to replace Pereira. However, it is said that no decision is expected on the former Porto manager's successor this week.

Under-21 head coach James Collins and Under-18 head coach Richard Walker will lead the first team while the club look for a new manager. The Molineux club return to action on Saturday away at Chelsea (8pm).

In announcing Pereira's sacking, executive chairman Jeff Shi said: "Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful.

"Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and - despite a strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement - we have reached a point where we must make a change.

"We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them all the very best for the future."
