Another scintillating Premier League gameweek is passing us by. With big wins for Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, who made it into our team of the week?
We’ll be sticking to tradition, using the classic 4-4-2 formation for this XI. Players from Fulham, Brighton and Crystal Palace all made the cut – but who are they?
GK: Giorgi Mamardashvili
This week didn’t see a particularly outstanding goalkeeping performance, but Liverpool’s Giorgi Mamardashvili will be happy to have picked up his first clean sheet in a Liverpool shirt.
He made three saves against Aston Villa as the Reds ran out as 2-0 victors at Anfield.
RB: Kenny Tete
Kenny Tete put in a textbook modern fullback display against Wolves, as Fulham defeated their visitors by a score of 3-0.
He kept Wolves’ attacking output quiet whilst making a nuisance of himself down the right flank.
CB: Gabriel
Is Gabriel the best centre-back in the Premier League? His partner at Arsenal William Saliba might have something to say about his inclusion.
His performance at the weekend lent credence to this theory, as he kept a clean sheet and notched up an assist against Burnley at Turf Moor.
CB: Marc Guehi
Marc Guehi is maintaining his prestige as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Against a tricky Brentford outfit, he held firm, gluing the Crystal Palace’s backline together and enabling their victory.
LB: Nico O’Reilly
Is it time for Nico O’Reilly to start playing in England’s senior team? His performance on Sunday would suggest so – he scored a wonderful goal from the inverted fullback position against Bournemouth as City saw off the Cherries.
RM: Rayan Cherki
Rayan Cherki proved his worth to the world on Sunday afternoon – at times, he looked unplayable as Bournemouth’s defenders scrambled to contain him.
He is starting to show why Pep was willing to let City legend Kevin de Bruyne leave for Napoli. Cherki is showing what he is all about as the season develops and his connection with Phil Foden and Erling Haaland is only getting stronger.
CM: Declan Rice
Is Declan Rice the best midfielder in the world? Should Arsenal win the Premier League title at the end of the season – an eventuality which is looking increasingly likely – it would be hard to argue against it.
Rice found himself on the scoresheet again against Burnley as the Gunners effectively shut the Clarets out throughout during the game being dominant.
CM: Diego Gomez
Brighton were excellent against Leeds United on Saturday, with Diego Gomez being the star of the show.
The Paraguayan international scored twice as the Seagulls picked up a vital win at the Amex, putting them back in the top half of the table.
LM: Ryan Sessegnon
Fulham needed a win on Saturday – cometh the man, cometh the hour as Ryan Sessegnon opened the scoring early for them against Wolves.
We’re aware he played at left-back against Wolves, but we put him in the left midfield slot due to the extent of his attacking contributions.
ST: Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland struck twice against Bournemouth in the first half, taking his tally for the season up to 13 goals at the time of writing.
After a relatively slow campaign last season, Haaland is looking unplayable once again this year.
ST: Jean-Philippe Mateta
Jean-Philippe Mateta is coming into his own in 2025/26 and is showing why the likes of French footballing royalty in Thierry Henry is a huge backer of the Crystal Palace hitman.
After an inconsistent start to life at Selhurst Park, he has 6 goals to his name this season, with the latest coming against Brentford at the weekend.
