Trump has complained about the NFL change in an unhinged social media rant
Donald Trump couldn't resist taking another jab at the NFL during a Sunday afternoon football game, even as he eagerly awaited his appearance on 60 Minutes. Football enthusiasts were simply relieved that the former president is no longer trying to dictate where franchises can build new stadiums.
Trump tuned into the Bills-Chiefs game and took to his Truth Social account to once again express his dissatisfaction with the league's "ridiculous" kickoff rules. "I hate watching the NFL's new kickoff rule," he posted.

"It's ridiculous. It robs the game of its pageantry and glamor and does nothing for safety. They should revert back to the old way. I hope college football never adopts this absurd change. Meanwhile, I'm gearing up to watch President Donald J. Trump (that's me! ) on 60 Minutes."

President Trump has made his feelings clear about the new NFL kickoff rule
Last season, the NFL implemented its "dynamic kickoff" in an attempt to increase returns while minimizing high-speed collisions.
The decision has received mixed reviews, but Trump has been a consistent detractor, arguing that it diminishes the excitement of the game and "looks like hell."
His grievances date back over a year, underscored by his comments on the Bussin' with the Boys podcast. In October 2024, Trump remarked, "I think it's terrible. What are they doing? I think it's ugly, it doesn't look like football."
That same month, he responded to a Steelers–Jets game by posting, "When you have something that works, don't tinker with it, you may end up with nothing."
By November 2024, he was complaining about the change at campaign rallies.

"I watched the game the other day, I said, 'What the hell happened? They just kicked off and nobody moved.' Oh well. That's up to them, "Trump told supporters in Raleigh, North Carolina.
After his reelection, he ramped up his attacks on social media, arguing it signals the beginning of the NFL's downfall. When the 2025 season kicked off, Trump returned to the topic, insisting that the league should scrap the kickoff rule.
"It's at least as dangerous as the normal kickoff and looks like hell. The ball is moving, and the players are not. The exact opposite of what football is all about. 'Sissy football' is bad for America."
Through Week 8 of the 2025 season, the NFL has recorded approximately 1,150 kickoffs, with an unprecedented 77.5 percent return rate, which is more than double last year's mark and the highest since 2006, according to NFL special teams data.
