Leeds United Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard joining Leeds United would be something you would have never heard a decade ago, but that could soon be a reality. With the Whites having a mixed start to the campaign, rumours have gone wild.
The Premier League table is starting to take shape, and each week it becomes clearer which teams are fighting for what. Leeds are currently near the relegation zone and could be in the battle for survival as the weeks go on.

Daniel Farke has come under pressure after recent results, and the 3-0 thrashing to Brighton has not helped things. Jeff Stelling has said on Talksport Breakfast that Steven Gerrard could be a surprise candidate for the job at Elland Road:
“Daniel Farke wasn’t universally popular with Leeds fans when they got promoted, and he’s under a lot of pressure right now.
“And the manner of their defeat, I think, at the weekend at Brighton has left a lot of Leeds fans questioning him.
“And I just wonder whether Steven Gerrard is just maybe holding fire for something like that, although I’m not sure whether an ex-Liverpool man can go and manage Leeds.”
“Look at the fixtures, Ally. I know you can’t read, but Leeds have got Forest away and then Villa, Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool are the four after that. Scary, isn’t it?”
Steven Gerrard is not the right choice for Leeds United
We are some games away from the midpoint of the season, which is around the most ideal time for managerial change at struggling clubs. The 49ers have considered the former Liverpool man to take charge at Rangers.
But doing so at Leeds would be a poor decision. The 45-year old has been coaching since 2017, and has had three senior managerial appointments – Aston Villa, Al-Ettifaq and Rangers.
He has been fired from all three jobs, and his only success in over 287 games has been one major domestic trophy. Steven Gerrard’s competence as a manager is sometimes inflated by his playing career.
He was sacked from Aston Villa after just 13 wins, and only managed nine total before he was let go in Saudi Arabia. At Rangers, his stint was impressive, but you do have to factor in that the Scottish giants are one of the two big clubs in the competition.
Former Premier League star not built for a relegation battle
Hiring him at Elland Road would be a bad decision on many fronts. The most important one being that he has zero experience in charge of relegation battles. Every club he has managed has been at a decent level before he arrived.
If Daniel Farke‘s record this season gets worse and the 49ers want a new coach, the former Liverpool man should be the last name on their list.
