Bucks’ Myles Turner opens up about coming to Indiana for the first time after leaving Pacers

The Milwaukee Bucks visit the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Monday, Nov. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Fans should expect an emotional atmosphere for Myles Turner’s first return.

The Bucks center spoke plainly about his move in media press conference before the game.

“For me, ultimately it was about just staying competitive,” he said. ” Two years ago, we got to the Eastern Conference Finals. Obviously, last year we got to the Finals.” He added that Milwaukee and its coaches share his urgency to win.

He also described frustration with how talks unfolded in Indiana. Turner said the timing felt wrong and that he was left with little choice after the Pacers’ offers stalled.

“You know, being there, being a part of it, winning basketball, it’s just changed my entire perspective on this league. And I saw a chance to remain competitive here,” Turner added.

Myles Turner returns to Indiana for the first time since leaving the Pacers for the Bucks.

Turner has taken multiple shots at his former team in the media, which the Pacers have taken note of.

Financially, Turner landed a multi-year deal with Milwaukee. Reports put the contract at roughly a four-year pact worth about $108 million, including a player option late in the deal. The money and role with the Bucks were major factors in his decision.

On the court, Turner brings rim protection and spacing. Last season he averaged about 15.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. Playing next to Giannis Antetokounmpo gives him a clear chance to impact both ends and chase a title. Turner said he saw an opportunity to stay competitive by joining Milwaukee’s core.

Turner expects mixed reception in Indianapolis. For him, the focus is simple, that win the game. The matchup will test early chemistry between Turner and Giannis and give fans a first full look at the Bucks’ new frontcourt pairing.
