Mike Vrabel calls Patriots’ strength of schedule narrative ‘mind-boggling’

A quick look at the Patriots’ 2025 schedule shows a lot of opponents that, in theory, New England should beat. Statistically, they have one of the easiest schedules this season, but Mike Vrabel isn’t buying into that narrative for being part of the reason the Patriots are 7-2.

“I can only coach one team at a time. I don’t make the schedule. Every team beats every (team),” the Patriots coach said on WEEI on Monday. “That’s just mind-boggling to me, in the National Football League, that there be strength of schedule. You got a salary cap. Everybody spends the same amount of money. So you guys know in this league, that that doesn’t really mean anything.

“I love your little smirk over there,” Vrabel said to co-host Chris Curtis. “You come up with this question and you want to ask me about the strength of schedule and my message. My message has been the same every week: That we have to put everything that we have into each week, and that everybody has to prepare as a starter. I love our practices and the way that we compete, and then you go and play the game.”

New England’s latest win came against what some might consider an “easy” opponent in the Atlanta Falcons. The Patriots won, 24-23, and Atlanta fell to 3-5 on the season.

“That’s a talented football team,” Vrabel said of the Falcons. “How many first round picks? I don’t know, 10 or 12 on the roster? Good skill players. So I’m never going tp apologize for our guys winning.”

The Patriots have won six straight games which began with a stunning road upset of the Buffalo Bills in primetime. Their next opponent is the 6-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road.
