Everton play on Monday night on what will be a cold, dreary trip to the Northeast for the travelling Blues to take on high-flying Sunderland. The newly-promoted side has exceeded all early expectations playing positive football and picking up a healthy amount of points even as the Premier League mainstays are getting all shook up.
The Blues enter the Stadium of Light much like they did Elland Road to open the season, as slight underdogs taking on a well-supported side that has risen from the Championship and looking to extend their stay in the top flight for more than just a season. The Toffees came out completely flat against Leeds United and were beaten handily, and David Moyes will need to ensure there isn’t a replication of that lack of effort, especially after their 3-0 thumping at home last Sunday by Tottenham Hotspur.
The injury situation remains about the same for the Blues with Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson the only absentees, while the hosts have Habib Diarra and Romaine Mundle out, Leo Hjelde and Dennis Cirkin are doubtful, but Aji Alese is expected to have recovered from a concussion.
