Chiefs Teammates Put on Notice by Patrick Mahomes After Bills Loss

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes fell to 1-5 against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills during the regular season on Sunday.

While Mahomes holds a 4-0 advantage over Allen and the Bills when it counts most - in the playoffs - Sunday’s performance goes down as one of the worst in recent memory for the three-time Super Bowl champion. In a 28-21 loss, the quarterback completed under 50% of his passes, connecting on 15 of 34 passes for 250 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

Mahomes, who leads the Chiefs in rushing, also only carried the ball once for five yards as Kansas City fell to 5-4 on the season and outside of a playoff spot.

Following the game the star quarterback made it clear the team as a whole needs to be “more consistent” if they want to win.

“We’ve had great moments and we’ve had bad moments,” Mahomes said. “We’ve got to be more consistent as a team, I’ve got to be more consistent and we’ve been in a lot of these tight, close games in our history, but they’re not going our way.”

He then directed a message right at his teammates over the second half of the season.

“We’ve got to learn from it, but it’s kind of like…we’ve got to do it now,” he said. “There’s no easy game coming up and there’s no more chances we can take any losses. So I mean you’ve got to learn from it fast and we’ve got to be better as a team. Offensively we’ve got to be better, especially on some of those big drives we had in the second half.”

Mahomes and the Chiefs will have time to reflect on the loss as they head into the bye week before a battle against the Denver Broncos.

Five of Kansas City’s eight remaining games are against teams either leading their division or still in the playoff hunt - the Denver Broncos (two), Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Chargers, and Dallas Cowboys.
