This marks the second straight season in which Stefanski, who is in sixth season as head coach, has handed off play-calling responsibilities. Last season, OC Ken Dorsey called plays for the 3-14 team before being let go at the end of the season.

Rees, 33, joined the team last season as a passing-game specialist and tight ends coach. He was promoted to OC following the firing of Dorsey. He previously served as OC at Alabama and Notre Dame. Rees started 30 games at quarterback for the Fighting Irish from 2010 to 2013.

The Browns are 2-6 on the season and coming off of their bye week. The team ranks second-last in yards per game at 263.5, fourth-last in passing yards per game at 174.1, fifth-last in rushing yards per game at 89.5 and third-last in points per game at 15.8.

The Browns return to action on Sunday with a visit to the New York Jets (1-7).
