Cole Palmer has big hope for Estevao as he singles out exciting Chelsea youngster

Cole Palmer has been named to the FIFPRO Men’s World XI, and says he has faith in Chelsea teammate Estevao Willian to do the same.

Palmer may be stuck on the sidelines, but he got some good news on Monday when he was one of two Premier League players named to the FIFPRO World XI.

Palmer made the Ballon d’Or Top 10 in September — the only player to do so without Champions League football. The same is true for the World XI, where the Chelsea star’s Player of the Tournament campaign at the Club World Cup has put him in elite company.

After receiving the award, Palmer was asked what new face he expects to see in the team in future seasons. His answer was as obvious as it is probable, selecting teammate Estevao.

But Palmer has one hope for the Brazilian, if he does make it.

Cole Palmer’s big hope for Estevao Willian

Estevao has had a flying start at Chelsea, and Palmer’s prediction that he will make the World XI won’t ruffle any feathers.

At just 18, Estevao is already performing at an elite level, and he’s only going to get better. But if he is to reach his full potential, Palmer really hopes it’s by his side.

As FIFPRO report, Palmer named Estevao and said: “I think he’s got all the ability in the world to go on and do great things. Hopefully he can do it here at Chelsea.”

Joe Cole recently voiced Estevao concerns, fearing that his talent will attract the attention of Real Madrid and other European giants. Palmer — of whom the same is true — would much rather Estevao hit his ceiling at Stamford Bridge.

This won’t be the last time Palmer is honoured in this way. Still just 23, he has the best part of a decade to maintain this world-class level.

He was delighted to be included, saying: “Being part of the FIFPRO World 11 is obviously a great honour and to be voted by the other players is a nice feeling.

“They know what it takes, obviously, to play the game at a high level, so to be voted by them is the best feeling.”

Chelsea have had a decent campaign so far, but Palmer’s absence is no doubt preventing Enzo Maresca from getting the absolute best out of his side.

When his talisman returns and starts building chemistry with the likes of Estevao and Joao Pedro, Chelsea become a different proposition for opposing defences.

Jamie Redknapp thinks Palmer’s return puts Chelsea in the title race. It won’t be long now until we find out if that’s the case.
