Ally McCoist's perfect response to suggestion Newcastle United could sack Eddie Howe

Is Eddie Howe at risk of being sacked as Newcastle United manager? Absolutely not according to Ally McCoist.

The former Rangers striker has been discussing Eddie Howe’s future at St James’ Park on the back of the alarming defeat to West Ham United on Sunday.

Newcastle United were terrible against West Ham, putting in what was probably their worst performance during the Eddie Howe era.

The Magpies were desperately poor, with Howe furious with his players. He made three changes at half-time, but would have changed his full XI if he could.

It was an abject display from a Newcastle United side that are still without an away win in the Premier League this season, which is an alarming statistic.

Ally McCoist laughs off claim Newcastle United could sack Eddie Howe

But does that mean that Howe is at risk of losing his job as Newcastle United manager? Well, Ally McCoist has laughed off any such suggestion.

Speaking on TalkSPORT on Monday, Jeff Stelling stated that some Toon fans had been critical of Howe following the 3-1 defeat to West Ham. In response, McCoist refuted any talk of the Newcastle United owners looking for a new manager.

“Miles away [from getting sacked],” he said.

“He has done and is doing a fantastic job. I understand the frustrations, and he’ll be as frustrated as anybody.

“But come on. He won them a trophy and Champions League football. We’re 10 games into the season. Newcastle will be fine. Absolutely fine.

“My only concern was the one they had the last time getting into the Champions League, and that was the squad being big enough. I certainly think the squad is bigger and better than it was even last season.

“Everybody, calm down. Eddie will be absolutely fine.”

Newcastle United are set up to succeed with Eddie Howe

McCoist could not be more right about Newcastle United and Eddie Howe’s future. He is going absolutely nowhere.

The Toon owners have no reason to even consider changing their manager. Fortunately, that is not something they are considering. PIF only want Eddie Howe as Newcastle United manager, with the club engineered to be successful under his management.

He has been influential over the club’s signings, while a new sporting director in Ross Wilson was brought in to work in tandem with Howe. That is a contrast to Paul Mitchell, who appeared to rally against the current Toon boss.

With everything he has achieved at St James’ Park, Howe has so much credit in the bank. Even with that credit, the Magpies’ current situation is far from a crisis anyway. While their Premier League form is a major issue, it is something that Howe can and will rectify.

As Jacob Murphy has said, this Newcastle United team ‘find a way’ to change their fortunes. They always have done, and will continue to do so under Howe’s management.
