Patrick Mahomes insisted both he and the Kansas City Chiefs must “be more consistent” after losing to the Buffalo Bills.

The loss snapped the Chiefs’ three-game winning run since their Monday Night Football loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kansas City has also dropped to third in the AFC West, behind both the Los Angeles Chargers and the division-leading Denver Broncos.
Mahomes struggled against pressure; the Bills pressured the quarterback throughout the night, and he was 3-of-16 with an interception in those situations. He lamented the Chiefs’ inability to deliver in close games, as all four of their defeats have come by one score.
Now on a bye week, Mahomes insisted the Chiefs will use their bye week to learn lessons about how to turn these results into wins. He is also looking for more consistent performances from everyone across the roster heading into the final eight games of the regular season.
“We’ve had great moments and we’ve had bad moments,” Mahomes said. “We’ve got to be more consistent as a team, I’ve got to be more consistent as a quarterback, and we’ve gotta be able to battle.

“We’ve kind of been in a lot of these tight, close games in our history, but they’re not going our way now. How can we deal with that adversity? How can we be better and learn from it?
“You can only learn from so many losses. You’ve got to learn from it fast. It’s going to be an uphill battle when we get back, but I think our guys are up to it.”
Buffalo notched a fifth successive regular-season win against Kansas City, but has lost each of its four playoff meetings in the Mahomes era. But the Chiefs’ frustrations are concerning, as Andy Reid’s team won tight games in 2024.

Last season, Kansas City set an NFL record by winning 17 consecutive one-score games and was 12-0 in such close calls on the trek to Super Bowl LIX. But, after being crushed by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Big Game, the streak came to a screeching halt in Week 1 when the Chiefs fell 27-21 to the Chargers in Brazil.
Now, the Chiefs are in a real battle just to make the playoffs. The AFC West franchise is on a bye in Week 10 and will next be in action on the road against the 7-2 Broncos on Sunday, Nov. 16.
