Man United are currently eighth in the Premier League table after winning five of their ten matches.
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United side had the chance to win four games in a row in the Premier League, but they ended up drawing to Nottingham Forest, ending their winning streak. However, United are still just one point off the top four, and fully embroiled in the fight for Europe.
Their next game comes against Tottenham before the international break, which won’t be an easy test, before they return from the break with a home date with Everton. Following that, it doesn’t get any easier for United, as they face a trip to play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
After the Palace game, however, things get a little easier, as they play against West Ham at Old Trafford for their first game in December, before making a trip to Wolves, who sacked manager Vitor Pereira over the weekend. But how do United’s fixtures compare to their closest rivals’?
Liverpool, Chelsea and Man United with favourable fixture runs
Man United’s next 5 games: Tottenham (A), Everton (H), Crystal Palace (A), West Ham (H), Wolves (A)
Liverpool’s next 5 games:Man City (A), Nottingham Forest (H), West Ham (A), Sunderland (H), Leeds (A)
Chelsea’s next 5 games: Wolves (H), Burnley (A),Arsenal (H), Leeds (A), Bournemouth (A)
Unlike United’s fairly consistent fixtures, both Liverpool and Chelsea have one very tough game, as the Reds play Man City up next, and Chelsea will welcome Arsenal to Stamford Bridge in three games’ time.
However, apart from those games, both Liverpool and Chelsea’s fixtures are fairly kind, much like United’s. They both face games against two newly-promoted sides, and they also each get one of West Ham and Wolves, who are both struggling.
So, despite United’s decent fixture run, it may not be as good as Chelsea and Liverpool’s, so look for them to make a run at league leaders Arsenal over the next month.
Arsenal and Man City have tough fixture lists
Arsenal’s next 5 games: Sunderland (A), Tottenham (H), Chelsea (A), Brentford (H), Aston Villa (A)
Man City’s next 5 games: Liverpool (H), Newcastle (A), Leeds (H), Fulham (A), Sunderland (H)
Starting with Arsenal, yes, they do face newly-promoted Sunderland, but after that is the North London derby, which is never an easy game. It doesn’t get much better for Mikel Arteta after that, either, as they then have to go to play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Games against Brentford and Villa shouldn’t be underestimated either, as both sides are in decent spells of form.
Man City have arguably the toughest two-game stretch of any team in the league, as they welcome Liverpool to the Etihad, before heading North to take on Newcastle at St James’ Park. After that, their games get easier with Leeds, Fulham and Sunderland, but it certainly isn’t an easy run of five for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Man United may well be able to make up some ground on their cross-City rivals, and even potentially close the gap to Arsenal, who currently have a six-point cushion at the top of the league.
