Jets HC Aaron Glenn Will Keep His Starting QB Decision 'Close to the Vest'

Taylor (knee), TE Stone Smartt (quad), RB Breece Hall (knee) and star WR Garrett Wilson (shoulder), who missed the Jets' two games prior to the bye, all are expected to practice this week.

"Those guys will be participating in practice to some degree this week, so I'm looking forward to those guys getting out," Glenn said.

In other injury news, S Andre Cisco is slated for a surgical procedure on his shoulder/arm and will miss the remainder of the season. CB Sauce Gardner, RB Kene Nwangwu and LB Kiko Mauigoa also are nearing their returns to practice.

"Those guys are finishing up their protocol," Glenn said. "I'm assuming that will go perfect, so looking forward to those guys getting out and practicing also."

Last week, the Jets acquired WR John Metchie III and a 2027 sixth-round pick from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for CB Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Metchie (6-0, 195), in his third season from Alabama, had 44 catches with Houston (2023-24) and Philly (2025) over 36 games.

"I really enjoyed talking to him," Glenn said of Metchie. "He is our type of guy. Some of the things we talked about really resonate to what we talked about here about being process oriented, about how we practice, about listen you have to callous yourself with practice to be able to go out and play at this time of the year, which is important. Our brand of football that we talk about in-house really fits who the player is, so I'm excited to have him, looking forward to him getting out and being part of what we're trying to accomplish this season."

While remaining mum on his QB plans, Glenn was clear on what his team goal is after celebrating a win the last time out.

"Building this foundation is something that has been happening since OTAs and that takes a while to get done," he said. "And we're not going to stop trying to get that done and we know that takes time, but we want to win right now just like every team does. The players enjoyed the win, but they are looking forward to getting out there again against Cleveland and trying to get another win. That's the focus for this week."
