Leeds United can sign their next Kalvin Phillips with bold transfer raid for Man United-linked…

The Premier League Panel Which teams will get better or worse next season

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke will be able to sign some players in the January transfer window ahead of the second half of the Premier League season

Leeds United stormed to the Championship title earlier this year and secured their return from the Football League along with Burnley and Sunderland. The Whites have since been getting to grips with life back in the Premier League as they aim to avoid relegation. They lost 3-0 away at Brighton and Hove Albion at the AMEX Stadium in their latest outing over the weekend.

The West Yorkshire outfit are back in action on Sunday with a trip to the City Ground to play Nottingham Forest as they look to return to winning ways. Their upcoming opponents have recently appointed Sean Dyche as their new manager. They are already on to their third boss of the campaign after churning through Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou already.

Leeds United should swoop for Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney in January

Leeds have the chance to bring in some more players in the January transfer window. They have the opportunity to freshen up their ranks this winter ahead of the second half of this term. With that in mind, they should try and test Middlesbrough’s resolve with a bid for Hayden Hackney.

Hackney, 23, is too good to be playing in the Championship and needs to test himself at the top level. He’s recently been linked with Manchester United, among other elite Premier League clubs. He is under contract at the Riverside Stadium until June 2027 meaning Boro are under no pressure to sell him just yet and can wait for big money. The Redcar-born man has been a key player for his current club over the past few years and they won’t want to lose him.

The England youth international has risen up through Middlesbrough’s academy and was a regular at various different youth levels for them as a youngster. He was loaned out to Scunthorpe United in his early career to get some experience under his belt and boost his development. He then broke into the first-team in 2021 and hasn’t looked back since, scoring 12 goals in 127 games in all competitions,

Why Hayden Hackney would suit Leeds United

Middlesbrough are aiming to go up under the guidance of Rob Edwards. The ex-Watford and Luton Town man was picked as their replacement for Michael Carrick this past summer. He is a big fan of Hackney’s and recently said: “I thought Hayden was excellent. Loads of energy, loads of quality, desire, passion and he won a lot of duels. His running was really good – that’s the best he’s looked since he’s come back from the success that he had with the national team.

“You can see it out there that he loves the club and he’s been extremely professional, so I couldn’t be happier with him. The way I see things right now is he’s here with us, he loves this place, I thought his performance showed that.”

Leeds have missed a Kalvin Phillips-type presence in midfield since his exit to Manchester City. Hackney could help fill that void again over the coming years if they managed to lure him over to Elland Road this winter. He wouldn’t come cheap though and they would have to see off potential competition from elsewhere to land his signature from Middlesbrough.

In the meantime, the Whites’ recruitment team will be eyeing up possible targets. They need to ensure that they bring in the right type of characters to boost their survival charge. They can’t afford to waste money and sign the wrong players as they look to finish above the bottom three and establish themselves at the top level.
