The Chicago Bears had an extremely impressive win agains the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. On a day where Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco had a career-best performance, throwing over 450 yards and four touchdowns, Chicago won after a go-ahead touchdown from Caleb Williams to rookie Colston Lovelland in the last minute of regulation.
However, as great as the win was, it showed signs of Chicago’s weaknesses on defense. Unfortunately, things are only going to get even harder for the defense from here on out, as one of its most important pieces is done for the season, according to one prominent league insider.
“Sources: #Bears standout edge Dayo Odeyingbo, a big-ticket signing in free agency, has torn his Achilles and is out for the season,” [reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Monday.](https://x.com/RapSheet/status/1985443457666879723)
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Tough break for Dayo Odeyingbo—torn Achilles ends his season. A $48M signing with just 1 sack so far, now Poles must act fast to bolster the edge before the deadline. Frustrating hit for the Bears’ defense,” one person wrote on Twitter.
“This has to be the 4th or 5th contract Poles has given out that’s been a total F signing,” one fan added.
“I never agreed with the pickup – a waste of cap space IMO,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Chicago’s defense looks down the stretch.
