Why Kyler Murray isn't playing tonight for Cardinals vs. Cowboys with injury news

Kyler Murray has a lot of great memories at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

He's not lined up to make more on Monday Night Football, though.

The Arizona Cardinals are taking on the Cowboys in "Jerry World," where Murray won in both high school and college.

Murray is slated to be on the sideline, though. Arizona's starting QB will be Jacoby Brissett, not Murray.

Why isn't Kyler Murray playing tonight?

Kyler Murray is not going to start Monday night. As he recovers from injury, Murray will cede starting duties to Jacoby Brissett.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this about Murray, though: "Kyler Murray is making progress from his foot sprain, and could have a role Monday night, but Brissett will start."

Those words "could have a role" are very unusual. It's not clear if that means something particularly weird, or just that Murray will be QB2.

We won't know on that for sure until the inactive report and potentially even during the game.

The mid-foot sprain for Murray has been nagging for him in recent weeks. It can't be fun for any QB, particularly a mobile one like Murray.

There seemed to be belief earlier in the week that Murray would return, but eventually, Brissett was named this week's starter.

The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday, Nov. 9 in Seattle against the Seahawks. That'll be Murray's next chance to reclaim his starting job.
