Jerry Jones has ‘made a trade’ for Cowboys, working on two more before deadline

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team has agreed to a trade and is working on two more ahead of Tuesday afternoon’s NFL trade deadline, while speaking Monday afternoon at an event at Texas Live with ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith and Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin in Arlington.

“[There’s] a lot of action going on right now in terms of trading,” Jones said. “We certainly have made a trade, and we may make a couple more trades before that deadline. We’ve made one. We possibly could make two more, and I’m going to wait and let you read about that when we send the papers in tomorrow.”

Later, Jones added that he feels strongly about the player’s immediate contributions.

“Immediately it will have him on the field,” Jones said. “And it will address some of the things that have been our shortcomings.”

Those shortcomings have included a heavy emphasis on finding defensive help in the days and weeks leading up to the NFL trade deadline, specifically at defensive end and linebacker. Throughout the last week, the Cowboys have made calls around the league with a focus on those two position groups, according to multiple league sources.

With the Cowboys’ defense sitting 31st in the NFL in both yards allowed per game (404.6) and points allowed per game (31.3), there has been a full effort to find help on the first two levels of the defense ahead of the deadline.

Jones did not offer any details about the completed trade or the trades that the team is working on. He instead implied that the deal will be finalized early Tuesday.
