Commanders' Dan Quinn Responds to Uproar Over Jayden Daniels Injury

A bad night for the Washington Commanders got far worse when quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a gruesome left-arm injury in a 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on “Monday Night Football.”

Daniels is expected to be sidelined indefinitely with a dislocated left elbow. The second-year signal caller will undergo further MRI testing to determine if the injury is season-ending.

Daniels’ injury occurred with just over seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter as the Commanders trailed the Seahawks 38-7.

Washington head coach Dan Quinn is facing some serious backlash for his decision to put Daniels in harms way with the Week 9 matchup well out of reach.

Quinn addressed the public uproar during a press conference on Monday afternoon.

“I get that. I’ve been thinking about it nonstop too and, man, I missed it. … That is 100% on me,” the Commanders head coach said, via team insider Nicki Jhabvala.

After leading the Commanders to the NFC Championship in his debut season, Daniels has struggled to stay on the field in 2025. The reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year has already missed three games with a variety of injury issues so far this year.

“Just distraught,” veteran tight end Zach Ertz said after the loss, via ESPN. “I care about Jayden the person much more than the player. The player is phenomenal, one of the best players in the league. He meant so much to me, to see him down like that in pain is tough. Football is a tough sport, a physical sport. To see injuries like that is difficult.”

Daniels wasn’t the only player to go down in Week 9. The Commanders also lost cornerback Marshon Lattimore (ACL) and wide receiver Luke McCaffrey (collarbone) to season-ending injuries.

The Commanders have lost each of their last four games, dropping to 3-6 on the season. With backup quarterback Marcus Mariota under center, Washington will look to get its campaign back on track in a Week 10 matchup against the Detroit Lions.
