Jets trade rumors update: Tracking latest news on New York ahead of NFL trade deadline

The New York Jets are 1-7 coming out of their Week 9 bye, and will be looking towards the future of the franchise, rather than trying to contend this season.

With such a mindset, the Jets' trade deadline could become very interesting. A lot of players have been floating in trade rumors, and the Jets have already made one trade before the NFL trade deadline.

Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn will reshape the Jets roster in the coming year, and they could begin making some changes at the 2025 NFL trade deadline. One player is already on a new team, and a few others could also be on their way to a new franchise by the NFL deadline.

Jets 2025 NFL trade deadline moves

Jets trade Michael Carter II to the Eagles for John Metchie

The most recent Jets trade ahead of the deadline was a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. With the Eagles in need of cornerback help and the Jets needing wide receiver help, the two teams swapped players.

The Jets traded Michael Carter II and a 2027 7th-round pick to the Eagles for John Metchie and a 2027 6th-round pick.

With this trade taking place during both teams' Week 9 byes, they have yet to suit up for their new teams by the trade deadline. But while Carter provides much-needed cornerback depth for the Eagles, Metchie is a huge addition to the offense in New York.

The former second-round pick of the Houston Texans, Metchie hasn't been able to find a stable footing since coming into the NFL.

He missed the entire 2022 season after a leukemia diagnosis, and since coming back, he has recorded 430 yards receiving on 44 receptions with one touchdown.

Metchie joins a depleted Jets wide receiver room in need of some help, especially with Josh Reynolds on injured reserve and Garrett Wilson dealing with an injury.

Jets acquire Jarvis Brownlee from the Titans

The other in-season trade from the Jets has worked out great. The Jets sent a 2026 6th-round pick to the Tennessee Titans for cornerback Jarvis Brownlee and a 2026 7th-round pick.

Despite being winless at the time, the Jets added a 24-year-old cornerback who's with the team through the 2027 season. Instead of keeping Carter, who is on a big $30 million-plus deal, Brownlee is on a rookie contract and has been great.

In the four games since coming to the Jets, Brownlee has allowed a passer rating of 84.8. It's a significant improvement from his 125.4 rating in Tennessee, and has been a huge pickup so far for the Jets.

Jets players in trade rumors

Carter was the top trade candidate in New York, but there are still plenty of others who could be on the move at the trade deadline.

On the offensive side of the ball, running back Breece Hall has garnered the most attention and could be on a new team by Tuesday's deadline. Teams like the Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Chargers are worth monitoring.

Other than Hall, Allen Lazard is the only other trade candidate on the offense. The majority of the players mentioned in trade rumors have been on defense, along with one special teamer.

Pass rushers Will McDonald IV and Jermaine Johnson II have both popped up in trade rumors, and while Johnson is more likely to be dealt, neither is expected to be on the move.

Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is also a name brought up in trade rumors, though his chances of being traded are slim. Linebacker Quincy Williams is also in trade rumors, though there's not a lot of smoke.

Nick Folk, the 40-year-old veteran kicker, is also someone who could be a surprise trade candidate. He's 17 for 17 on field goal tries, and could easily garner interest from a team dealing with kicking woes.

Of these players mentioned in trade rumors, Hall is the one most likely to be traded. He's been in trade speculation for a while, and in the final year of a rookie deal, the Jets could more easily trade him if they don't intend to re-sign him in the offseason.
